From 2001 onwards, Suzuki undertook some self-imposed restrictions, lowering the speedometer of the Hayabusa to 185 miles per hour (mph) from the 220 mph gauge of the 1999 and 2000 models in stock form. Suzuki substantially revised the GSX1300R in the 2008 model year, eventually dropping this designation and simply branded the motorcycle as Hayabusa. Its engine size was upgraded to 1349 cc (82.3 cu in), as well as the compression ratio which was increased to 12.5:1. Suzuki claims that the upgraded engine results in a 12% boost in power to 194 hp (145 kW). The fuel supply system was also changed with the adoption of a pair of SDTV (Suzuki dual throttle valve) 44 mm (1.7 in) throttle bodies. The 2008 Hayabusa for sale also sports the S-DMS (Suzuki drive mode selector) technology which provides three options of power delivery ranging from touring to wide open high performance.
